I am totally against this tax as there is normally shipping charges. We have enough tax revenue going out with nothing in return. Why send more. Going to the stores cost enough in gas now they want to penalize small business and their customers.

I am in total opposition to this proposed sales tax. After paying a considerable tax on my earnings here in NYS, I find myself paying out yet another 8.875% sales tax on local purchases in my community. If I make a concerted effort to buy American made products on line, I will not only pay for shipping but get penalized as well with yet another tax. And this is to level the playing field? Hows about we start with saving the $5.1 Billion NYS spends annually on the 1.4 million illegal aliens we harbor here? I believe it would be an excellent start to “leveling the playing field”? By the way. That’s $874 annually for every tax paying family in NYS.

Okay here’s what it will mean to a small business who maybe ships 1 small item to 1 person in 1 state. Now hopefully they would only have to collect the state sales tax & not the county & city portions (of which there are thousands of taxing entities) – that means you would have to figure out sales taxes for about 48 states (I know Oregon & Montana don’t have sales taxes) on a quarterly basis on their forms even if you only sold 1 person a $19.95 item which at a 6% sales tax rate would mean $1.20 in sales taxes due to that state….now multiply that by the number of states sold to & you can see the time wasted for that small business- they will likely go out of business rather than do that. And if that law is passed exempting businesses doing less than a certain $ level- how long before governments desperate for additional income change the law to apply to all businesses. It will kill little ma & pa businesses that also have a local presence- they will either stop shipping out of state (and lay off the employee who was processing & shipping those orders or they will go out of business completely & lay everyone off. Just a perspective to think about.

Your analysis is correct. That is why this is being championed by big retailers. It would effectively kill off a lot of small competitors for them without costing them a dime to do it. The government would effectively be “limiting the playing field” for the big boys to consolidate market share as the mom and pops all fold.

I am opposed to any new tax .The few people left in working class an still trying to get ahead are being hurt enough.I will no longer shop at Best By or Target stores as they are spending millions of dollars in support of this tax .They both say the Government is loosing money by not passing this tax and it must be passed so they can compete. Maybe If they lowered the price to the the customer instead of lobbying the politicians they may have more business . Also the money belongs to the people who earned it not the Government.By adding this tax it will only give politicians more money to waste.

A federal sales tax is the road to VAT, check the UK’s history on VAT, it’s now so high over there it’s ridiculous, the feds don’t need more taxation, they need to learn to budget like the rest of us who live on fixed incomes.
Sales taxes start off low, then when the crooks in DC want more money to waste they start rising…SAY NO!!

I flip back and forth on the fed sales tax. Be nice to eliminate the fed income tax and have everyone who spends, pay some tax. We’d all have skin in the game. There would be more affected by any tax increases. Help me with the downside. What don’t I get?

….this is nothing compared to obamacare….this is nothing compared to 17 trillion in deficits….

….this is nothing compared to all the muslims in our government, advising….this is nothing……..

I would not be opposed to a sales tax of say 4% if it went to the community where the on-line purchaser lived. That’s
directly to the community to meet its local needs. That would be the fairest use of the tax, since online shopping
does destroy small businesses locally. If it goes to state, regional, county government, highway programs or mandated education programs or saving us from terrorists or protecting the environment or whatever, I’m totally opposed. It’s LOCAL governments and communities that are being destroyed by current economic situations, big government, outsourcing and just about everything else. Let communities start figuring out what they actually need to become more liveable!

This is why Baucus has chosen to “retire” after his term is done and why the Democrats will probably try to get rid of Wyden as well. They won’t blindly fall in-line with the Party’s direction. Both realize that the direction the Democrat leadership wants to take the country will only end in more “unintended consequences” and higher costs and less freedom for the American people.
