2016 Congressional Balanced Budget Resolution

Amac_logo_color

At the end of April, AMAC conveyed its strong support for the policies set forth in the FY 2016 Congressional Balanced Budget Resolution. AMAC applauds both Chairman Price and Chairman Enzi for their correct identification of the financial and economic challenges facing America today. The FY 2016 Congressional Balanced Budget Resolution promises to balance the budget in 10 years without raising taxes.  The budget proposes doing this by reducing federal spending by $5 trillion and making government programs more transparent, effective, and efficient. The budget resolution also takes critical steps to save and strengthen vital senior programs such as Social Security and Medicare. AMAC is pleased to see that the budget resolution compels Congress to adopt long-term solutions that will guarantee benefits for seniors, and is even more pleased to see that the resolution will work to repeal ObamaCare. AMAC feels this budget resolution will put America on a path toward greater prosperity and was pleased to see Congress swiftly pass the FY 2016 Congressional Balanced Budget Resolution ahead of an important appropriations season.

Dear Chairman Price and Chairman Enzi,

On behalf of the 1.3 million members of AMAC, the Association of Mature American Citizens, I am writing to applaud the House and Senate for working to pass a budget this year and to convey our strong support for many of the policies set forth in the FY 2016 Congressional Balanced Budget Resolution. This concurrent budget resolution correctly identifies the financial and economic challenges facing America today and provides a blueprint for tackling those problems with positive, responsible solutions.

Time and again, it is has been said that America’s national debt is the single biggest threat to our national security. For this reason, it is imperative that Congress present a plan that will pay down our debt and balance the budget so that Washington can begin living within its means. The FY 2016 Congressional Balanced Budget Resolution promises to balance the budget in 10 years without raising taxes by reducing federal spending by more than $5 trillion and making government programs more transparent, effective, and efficient.

Not only does this budget resolution promote healthy economic policies and reduce federal spending, it also takes critical steps to save and strengthen vital senior programs like Social Security and Medicare. On Social Security, the budget resolution compels the legislative and executive branches to work together on a bipartisan basis to address the looming insolvency of the Old-Age and Survivors Insurance and Disability Insurance Trust Funds. Additionally, the budget resolution protects seniors’ access to Medicare by extending the life of the Medicare Hospital Insurance Trust Fund. While these important programs face uncertain futures, AMAC urges Congress to institute necessary structural changes to ensure that these programs continue to provide promised benefits. Thus, we appreciate that this budget resolution compels Congress to adopt long-term legislative solutions, as opposed to temporary band-aid fixes, that will guarantee Social Security and Medicare benefits for today’s seniors and tomorrow’s retirees.

Last, AMAC is pleased to see that the budget resolution will work to fully repeal the “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act,” or “ObamaCare,” by way of budget reconciliation. Repealing ObamaCare will save over $2 trillion, will end the egregious $700 billion raid on Medicare, and will unburden the public from obtrusive government mandates and regulations. Instead of imposing one-size-fits-all government health care on the American people, this budget resolution promotes health reform that is patient-centered. AMAC wholly supports the budget’s patient-centered approach to health care that rightly places value on increased access to quality, affordable care and expanded choices for individuals, families, and businesses.

As an organization committed to representing the interests of mature Americans and seniors, AMAC is encouraged by the positive vision outlined in the FY 2016 Congressional Balanced Budget Resolution. We feel that this budget resolution will help to rebuild trust with American taxpayers, will restore our nation’s financial and economic security, and will put America on a path toward greater prosperity. Therefore, AMAC respectfully asks Congress to swiftly pass this budget resolution and to begin holding Washington accountable for the federal spending and programs it administers.

Sincerely,

Dan Weber
President and Founder of AMAC
