AMAC: ‘Nasty’ Banter Has No Place in Political Debate

argumentWASHINGTON, DC, Dec 25 – A recent year-end Facebook ad campaign produced by the Association of Mature American Citizens resulted in an “enormous number of Likes and Link Clicks.  It also revealed how nasty and vitriolic some people can be, even at a time of the year set aside for good will,” AMAC president Dan Weber reported.

“AMAC is, indeed, an alternative for American seniors who identify themselves as political Conservatives.  We have a Constitutional right to our views and we believe we have an obligation to provide a forum where like-minded individuals can express their own sentiments.  In fact, we welcome dialogue not only with our members and supporters but also with those who have their own, different opinions.  So, I have to ask myself why die-hard Liberals are so intolerant,” Weber said.

Some of the comments posted on Facebook in reaction to a very straightforward advertisement went beyond the pale, he added.  “Disagree with us.  Argue with us.  But don’t resort to hurtful commentary.  We are all Americans.  Healthy debate is what we seek.”

One individual was compelled to write this comment: “So old white people have there [sic] own little group.  How nice.”  Another wrote: “Conservative help for seniors?  Isn’t that an oxymoron? Conservatives help no one but the rich.”  And yet another individual scribbled this online remark: “Conservatism is a sign of mental retardation”

This kind of “nasty banter” has no place in political debate, Weber said.

The Encyclopedia Britannica defines a political Conservative is one who “favors institutions and practices that have evolved gradually and are manifestations of continuity and stability. Government’s responsibility is to be the servant, not the master, of existing ways of life, and politicians must therefore resist the temptation to transform society and politics.”

Britannica describes a political Liberal as one who believes that “protecting and enhancing the freedom of the individual to be the central problem of politics.  Liberals typically believe that government is necessary to protect individuals from being harmed by others.”

But, whether a voter is a Democrat or a Republican is not the issue, Weber noted.  The issue, he said, is the Liberal influence that has made the nation dependent on the so-called largess of government in the form of indiscriminate hand-outs.

“It was a Democrat, John Kennedy, who said, ‘ask not what your country can do for you,’ and it was a Republican, Ronald Reagan who said, ‘the greatness of America doesn’t begin in Washington; it begins with each of you—in the mighty spirit of free people under God.’  We have an obligation to ourselves and to our children and our grandchildren that can only be fulfilled if we remain diligent and aware of the threats posed by those who would rewrite and distort history.”

The AMAC chief said that if we don’t preserve the legacies of our Founding Fathers, we cannot ensure the future for the next generations.  “This country was born for the purpose of providing refuge for those who had no shelter, for offering opportunity for those with little or no hope for the future and for affording individuals, whoever they are and wherever they come from, a chance to live, speak and worship as they please.  And, of course, America is all about helping each other to succeed so that we can promote growth and independence for ourselves and others.”

Weber said that AMAC is committed to preserving and promoting these notions and noted that “we must not take these freedoms for granted.  We need to actively protect them by being responsible citizens who participate in the process by exercising our right to petition our lawmakers, by using our votes to elect those who will steer us clear of murky ideologies and, of course, by looking out for one another.”

He cautioned that “the progressive principles that have been espoused in recent years threaten our political independence and the authority of ‘we, the people’ that is guaranteed under our Constitution.”

Weber concluded that if you ask Americans what their preference might be, “the great majority would opt for describing themselves as political Conservatives.  Polling has consistently shown that Conservatives outnumber Liberals in the U.S.  And, that’s the key to winning back our country from progressive ideologies that would impose greater government intrusion into our personal lives.  We must oppose the demagogues – the political elitists “who make use of popular prejudices and false claims and promises in order to gain power.”

Is there an editorial staff at AMAC? In the last couple of days a group of citizens has taken over Federal property and the President of the United States has voided congress to endanger the 2nd Amendment. Why are we still arguing over not talking nasty on the internet. I think 7 days of discussion on this is enough.

I and my wife are members of AMAC, and yet find it ironic that the organization supports SS, Medicare and Medicaid. The fact that seniors get far less benefits from it than they have put into are reasons to phase it out rather than keep it going.

IT’S INSURANCE. It is not a bank account or a savings plan. You may get way more than you put in, or you may get nothing if you don’t live long enough. The other option is to work til you die.

I find it ironic that AMAC supports Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. Yes it members benefit from it and have paid into it far more than they can possibly get out of it. But, aren’t those actually reasons to bring them to an end, rather than work to continue?

It is not only the liberals who are a threat to our Constitution, but the Republican Elite also. Any question about that look at the recent omnibus spending bill Ryan, McConnell and company pushed through Congress.

Progressivism, the disease that has infected all levels of government and threatens us all through the use of Alinsky tactics and the Cloward and Piven theory, that says something like, to create a whole new system of government in the USA, you must first collapse the existing one, but have the new one ready to go when you do.
They are about to succeed in their endeavor.

Thomas Jefferson had it correct about the tree of liberty requiring the blood of tyrants and patriots. For those who don’t know some of the tyrants are Barry Soetoro, Clinton (both of them), Soros, Reid, Pelosi, Kissinger, etc. Don’t forget the useful idiots such as the RINO’s or are someof them actually tyrants.

The blood lost so far has been mostly the innocents from terrorists, and our military under current rules of engagement.

I am about as conservative as they come – and a Christian Conservative. Therefore, I am shocked and offended by RogerW’s campaign to eliminate people with different opinions from the face of the earth – that sounds more like the liberals! And let us not forget that God is the one who will do the eliminating – of liberals and conservatives who don’t do the one thing He has asked of them. It is not up to us, and He is in full control. One thing I can thank the liberals for is the wake-up call that more and more people are responding to – the wake-up call that it is time to stop letting the liberals just slide by. But, we are to do it with votes – not violence – just as Houston did recently!

Complaints about the “nasty banter” of liberals are stupid and naïve. We conservatives are in a war for the soul of America, and liberals are the greatest threat to our Constitution and country. (Islamic extremists finish a distant second.) Liberals will do anything, and say anything, to accomplish their goals of weakening our country, including the military, and destroying the Constitution that made America great. We must be willing to tirelessly attack and ridicule liberals and their failed ideas. We should not shrink from the fight and complain about their tactics; we should attack them with everything we have (including force) until they are eliminated from the face of the Earth and their failed ideas are relegated to the dustbin of history.

I agree with putting the bad ideas in proper light, but my Mom once said, and I have proven it valid in every case; “The one that begins to sink to name-calling and a loud and angry voice is wrong, and uses these emotional tactics to hide their lack of logic or facts.”

I fought for my country against the Socialist/Communist government. I questioned those who vote for hope and change without getting any hard facts.

Why is it one person now says “I don’t like that” but thousands say “I love that” that we have to make changes because that one person disagrees. Minorities rule?

I guess so Brian , if that person is progressive, liberal.

As my Mom explained to me so many times, the philosophy of a liberal is “Do as I say, not as I do”.

Civil discourse and discussion are seeming to be a thing of the past. I Try (TRY) to actively listen to opposing views. Frequently with one family member the entire viewpoint (opinion) is the one they have or you are subject to a louder whatever is popular to negatively label someone. I believe Dennis Miller proposed talking to liberals on their own terms (trying to reach them). Such as, gun control- why are so many liberals anti woman? The gun is the great equalizer for the sexes.
Something that seems to particularly annoy many self described liberals is my comment that I am really fine with someone reaching a different viewpoint or opinion. I just want o learn, or discuss supporting or discrediting facts or viewpoints. Maybe they will succeed in making me agree with them, or question what I know , or teach me something I did not know, at worst we will understand why the other person is wrong. It is being taught at an early age to not question (and in the information age)!

Mr. Grimaldi,
Why cast your pearls before swine? Liberals always talk like they have all of the answers and then get angry when anyone has the guts to tell them that their know it all plans are not working. Liberals are a violent group as well. Their protests usually end up in riots. Conservatives demonstrations are usually characterized as rallies. This election, we are faced with old white rich political insiders posing as Democrat socialist renegades. They want America’s youth and her minorities to believe that it is the GOP who is old, white fat cats ready to strike at your and my very existence. Yet the Democrats have record deportations, beg to end your and my second amendment rights and have assaulted every religious organization’s existence. There are many of you who do not like one or more of the Republican candidates and speculate that you will not vote if that person is nominated to run against Hillary or Bernie in 2016. Not voting is like voting for the progressive fascist trash you and I are supposed to hate. You must vote for the GOP candidate if only to log a vote against the liberals. Remember, there will be lots of undocumented citizens and convicted felons voting early and often! Your vote will counter their illegal votes.

VERY well stated! I often preach to the “unlearned” who whine, “I’ll vote (I) before I vote for that particular (R)!”!
ANYTIME you vote “other than GOP” is a vote “FOR” more liberalism.

Unfortunately the Baby Boomer Woodstock generation has to die off before the political dialog balance can be restored, because there are so many of us and we wield disproportionate influence, especially those of monied educated “white” ‘privilege’ status. (My Woodstock ’69 was an M14 at ROTC summer camp in Fort Dix NJ. Dont snicker, at least Donald the Trump graduated while Bill Clinton dodged the Draft and ROTC fleeing to Oxford). The younger generations are more open minded, less strident, and observant of our follies and foilabilities, and are devoid of the ‘”guilt and shame'” that the educators/propagandaists have failed to instill in them, which appears to wear off after graduation when they no longer blackmail the youngstrers with acadamic grading. Though appearing cruel and pessimistic, my opinion is actually optomistic for the long term.

Hey everybody, being that at year’s end, awards are given out …

A Washington ethics group has named Hillary Clinton most corrupt politician for 2015!

In a parody of Times Magazine’s Man of the Year Award … WMD.com has named Obama as Muslim of the Year!

Both richly deserved I concur …

Has anyone seen the network news ad “training a new generation of voters”??? These are the college trained people that way have to watch. The schools and colleges are our biggest problem. We have to stop this “training” of our children and grandchildren or it will never end. Write, or e-mail the network’s sponsors and tell them you won’t buy their products as long as they advertise on these channels. If we all did this watch how fast they would turn around. If we actually stopped buying the products, they would quickly change. I know all about the pitfalls of boycotts, but it sure could not hurt. If we picked a product a month, see what would happen!!!

From the ashes will rise the Phoenix…as defined “an emblem of immortality or of reborn idealism or hope, something that has become renewed or restored after suffering calamity or apparent annihilation”. The United States of America–will be GREAT again!!!
