The Association of Mature American Citizens has serious doubts and concerns over the integrity of purpose and likely conduct of the January 6th Selective Committee formed by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Speaker Pelosi’s rejection of both Representatives Jim Jordan and Jim Banks ostensibly because they spoke against the second impeachment of President Trump is an extreme hypocritical action, particularly when strident anti-Trump highly partisan Democrats, including Intelligence Committee Chair Adam Schiff – the proponent of the false and debunked “Russian Dossier” — and lead House impeachment prosecutor Rep. Jamie Raskin, are part of the Democratic component to the panel. In addition, anti-Trump Republican Rep. Lynn Cheney was also named by Pelosi to the Select Committee. This action by Speaker Pelosi simply confirms her and her Democratic allies political anti-Trump “kangaroo court” and personal vendetta and persecuting purposes against President Trump.
AMAC commends Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s action in withdrawing the full slate of Republican members in the face of the Speaker’s untoward and shameless action.
As Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell said on May 26 in rejecting the need for a Pelosi panel:
‘…[T]here is no new fact about that day that we need the Democrats’ extraneous ‘commission’ to uncover. The Department of Justice is deep into a massive criminal investigation. 440-plus people have already been arrested. Hundreds have been charged. Even more arrests are said to be planned. And the Attorney General indicates this investigation will remain a focus. Multiple Senate committees are conducting their own bipartisan inquiries. And obviously, the role of the former President has already been litigated exhaustively in the high-profile impeachment trial several months ago. I do not believe the additional, extraneous “commission” that Democratic leaders want would uncover crucial new facts or promote healing. Frankly, I do not believe it is even designed to.”
Of particular note in this regard a recent Rasmussen Poll reported that the majority of those polled want inquiry and investigation into the 2020 summer BLM protest and riots, more than Pelosi’s January 6 panel. A supermajority of likely voters (66%) want the Black Lives Matter and antifa protests investigated, while a majority do not support Pelosi’s inquiry into the Jan. 6 storming of the Capitol, according to the latest Rasmussen Reports poll. Indeed, “sixty-seven percent of whites, 64% of Black voters, 66% of Hispanics and 62% of other minorities think Congress should investigate the 2020 riots in U.S. cities,” Rasmussen Reports wrote in the analysis of the poll. “Seventy-five percent of Republicans, 60% of Democrats, and 63% of voters not affiliated with either major party say Congress should investigate last year’s violent protests.”
We agree with Leader McConnell. The law enforcement investigation of the January 6th violence at the Capitol is underway and Pelosi’s panel is an extraneous effort – a continuation of the Democrats ongoing lynch mop mentality toward President Trump. Congress should focus, as the Rasmussen poll reports, on the 2020 summer BLM riots across the country and ferret out those responsible for inciting violence and destruction.
