The Honorable Warren Davidson
8th Congressional District of Ohio
1107 Longworth House Office Building
Washington, DC 20515

Dear Congressman Davidson,

On behalf of our more than 2 million members throughout America, including nearly 6400 residing in OH-08, I write to express AMAC – the Association of Mature American Citizens’ support of H.R. 5566, the Patient Fairness Act.

AMAC is on record as supporters of President Trump’s Executive Order instructing hospitals to share the secret, negotiated prices that they agree with insurance companies as well as the cash prices they accept for medical services. Our members have made it very clear that they determinedly support this kind of meaningful transparency in health care and tell us as much when we engaged them in numerous health care reform discussions.

Your patient-empowering bill codifies the President’s order and gives medical services consumers what is so critically needed in health care — a level playing field. Under the transparency the Patient Fairness Act would afford, Americans would have the ability to cost compare and shop for medical services much like they do when making every other major purchase in their lives. The bill also ensures that access to the pricing data would be available to them at no charge and in an easily readable format.

The Patient Fairness Act expands the use of Health Savings Accounts (HSA) for anyone who wishes to use them, and not just for those with a high-deductible health insurance plan. HSA holders would also have the freedom to use their accounts to pay for their health insurance premiums. The Patient Fairness Act also gives Americans the opportunity to create a legacy of care as it allows for people with HSAs to transfer their funds to the HSA of an heir, tax-free, upon their death.

As an organization that is truly member driven, AMAC congratulates you and your diligent staff for your leadership and recognizing that transparency is a key element to reducing health care costs. The Patient Fairness Act directly addresses a significant concern for the AMAC membership, and we are proud to offer our full support for it.
