Dear Congresswoman Spartz and Congresswoman Garcia,
On behalf of the 2.35 million members of AMAC – Association of Mature American Citizens, I write to offer our support for your legislation that was recently passed by the House of Representatives, H.R. 2922, the Elder Abuse Protection Act.
As an organization representing Americans who are age 50-plus, AMAC regularly hears from our members of the attempts by nefarious individuals and organizations to steal their identities and other fraudulent financial scams that could rob them of their limited retirement income. We have also heard of our members’ experiences with the maltreatment and negligence of their elderly loved ones, particularly during the Covid-19 lockdown.
H.R. 2922 would codify the Elder Justice Initiative, which was established by the Trump Administration, and make permanent the coordination of efforts to combat elder abuse. Your bill provides the necessary oversight and training for the legal and law enforcement communities, medical professionals, and other first responders to ensure cases of elder abuse, neglect, and fraud are managed appropriately.
Thank you, Congresswoman Spartz and Congresswoman Garcia, and your bipartisan co-sponsors, for working together to create compassionate legislation that protects America’s seniors and helps them to live their retirement years with dignity and respect. AMAC is pleased to offer our association’s full support for H.R. 2922, the Elder Abuse Protection Act.
