Dear Majority Leader McConnell and Chairman Grassley,

On behalf of the 1.3 million members of AMAC, the Association of Mature American Citizens, I write today in response to President Obama’s recent nominee to the Supreme Court, Judge Merrick Garland. Over the past several weeks, AMAC has been a staunch advocate of waiting until after the elections in November to fill the vacancy left by Justice Antonin Scalia. We applaud your efforts and the efforts of your colleagues to ensure the voice of the people is heard before such a pivotal appointment and confirmation. Thank you for standing up for the American People.

Certainly, it is within the president’s Constitutional authority to nominate individuals to fill vacancies on the Supreme Court. Furthermore, it is within the Constitutional authority of the United States Senate to give “Advice and Consent” to nominated individuals to the Supreme Court before they can take office. Deferring consideration of a nominee until after the election is within the Senate’s constitutionally prescribed “Advice and Consent” prerogative. Indeed, a tradition of waiting until the election is over has been strongly supported by Vice President Joe Biden, Senator Chuck Schumer, and several others before them. AMAC fully supports and will continue to encourage our Senators to wait until after the November election before considering a Supreme Court nominee.

While we respect the president’s Constitutional authority to nominate Judge Garland to fill the Supreme Court vacancy, we feel it our duty and obligation to stand with the American People and ask the Senate to wait for this year’s elections results before proceeding any further in the nomination process. As an organization committed to representing the interests of mature Americans and seniors, AMAC is dedicated to ensuring senior citizens’ rights are protected.

We applaud Majority Leader McConnell, Chairman Grassley, and your Republican colleagues for taking a hard stand at a difficult time.

We offer the thanks, gratitude, and encouragement of our 1.3 million members for standing up for our voice.

AMAC must pay attention to words. The Scalia replacement must be held until the new president is sworn in. If his replacement is approve before that date it still gives a lane duck president his choice of an ultra liberal judge in the place of a Constitutional Conservative, and that puts the Court in the hands of Progressives (AKA Communist) for the next 2-3 decades, and that would destroy this Unique American experiment.
