Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood, is reportedly stepping down from her position next week, Planned Parenthood officials say.
According to a Planned Parenthood representative, Richards plans to discuss a strategy for 2018 before her departure, as well as plan the next steps for the organization’s future at an upcoming board meeting.
Richards, now 60 years old, has presided over America’s largest abortion provider since 2006, overseeing approximately 3.5 million abortions over her tenure. Her salary had continually increased over this period of time, with Richards currently making nearly $1 million a year.
Cecile Richards saw Planned Parenthood through some of the organization’s largest controversies, including the investigation surrounding a 2015 series of investigative videos by the Center for Medical Progress that depicted how Planned Parenthood employees profit from the sale of body parts from aborted infants.
Since President Trump, an outspoken pro-life advocate, has taken office, Richards and Planned Parenthood have been making a large-scale effort to conceal the organization’s activity from the public. During the Obama administration, Richards knew Planned Parenthood had an ally in the White House and thus was much more lax in her approach to the organization’s public image, knowing that officials in Washington would be complicit in Planned Parenthood’s dishonest practices. After seeing President Trump’s resolve to defund Planned Parenthood and his commitment to defending the rights of the unborn, the organization has been taking a more secretive approach in their recent operations, knowing that our nation now has a leader unafraid to put his foot down and stand up to the abortion industry.
Richards already has questionable ties to liberal politicians – Hillary Clinton was openly endorsed by Planned Parenthood in the 2016 election, and prior to joining the organization, Cecile Richards served as deputy chief of staff for Democrat Rep. Nancy Pelosi.
For these reasons, some are suspecting Richards’ departure marks a turning point for the pro-life movement. Her stepping down can be viewed as evidence that the organization’s old approach is no longer working. The public is informed, Planned Parenthood’s dirty secrets are out. More and more Americans are becoming keen to the fact that the organization is nothing but a taxpayer-funded abortion chain masquerading as a women’s health care provider.
Some also suspect that Richards is leaving due to the ensuing investigation of Planned Parenthood. After allegations of illegally trafficking body parts of aborted infants, Richards may be trying to distance herself from the organization before any indictments begin.
While pro-abortion campaigners have expressed sadness about her departure, pro-life advocates are singing a different tune.
“She leaves broken lives in her wake,” the president of Students for Life of America said in a recent statement, adding that her departure is “evidence of the collapsing abortion industry”.
As Richards makes her exit from Planned Parenthood, America’s brave pro-life warriors have but one thing to say upon her departure: good riddance.
