Dem Filibuster of Gorsuch Supreme Court Confirmation Today Blocked, says AMAC

“It’s disappointing that we can be very open and fair to their people but they can’t be very open and fair to ours”

WASHINGTON, DC – Get ready for the fireworks in the Senate chamber today when recalcitrant Democrats continue to oppose the confirmation of Judge Neil Gorsuch as the newest Justice of the Supreme Court.  This, despite the fact that the majority in the Senate yesterday employed the so-called ‘nuclear option’ to prevent liberals from using an unprecedented filibuster to block the appointment.

“Democrat obstructionists may not be able to talk the confirmation to death using a filibuster, but it surely won’t stop them from using their right to speak up on the floor in an attempt to disrupt the proceedings.  I think there’ll be performances on the Senate floor that will be worthy of Academy Awards,” says Dan Weber, president of the Association of Mature American Citizens.

Filibuster has been tried in the past to block a Supreme Court nomination, but the tactic has never proved to be easy or successful.  “And, this time around, GOP senators had a powerful counterpunch that, ironically, was provided by Senate Democrats when they controlled the upper house and wanted to protect President Obama’s lower court appointments.  Under the leadership of chief Senate liberal at the time, Harry Reid, the Democrats created the ‘nuclear option,’ which allows the party in control of the Senate to simply change the rules so that instead of a 60-vote majority, all that will be needed is a one-vote margin in favor.  This, in a 2017 Senate composed of 52 Republicans and only 48 Democrats.”

AMAC is a powerful conservative organization representing the interests of senior citizens and is committed to upholding the Constitution.  Thus, the senior citizen advocacy organization is supportive of Judge Gorsuch as the man to replace the late Justice Antonin Scalia.  “Our membership is overwhelmingly in favor of maintaining a conservative majority on the bench,” says Weber.

So, why were Senate liberals so adamant about pursuing a filibuster that was so easy to prevent?  Because they wanted revenge for Republican maneuvering that foiled President Obama’s choice to replace Scalia, the left-leaning Judge Merrick Garland.  It was Mr. Obama’s last year in office and notwithstanding a precedent for allowing the incoming president to pick a nominee, Mr. Obama opted to make the appointment himself.

“Remember, Hillary Clinton was the front runner in the 2016 Presidential Election campaign and there is no doubt that she would have picked Garland or another liberal as her choice to fill Scalia’s boots.  But, President Obama and his fellow Democrats wanted to hedge their bet by seeking to prevent the unthinkable– a Republican in the White House to complement a solidly Republican Congress.  As it turned out, of course, President Trump won the election in a spectacular upset last November.  He also won the right to choose a conservative replacement for Scalia.”

The Democrats were seeking vengeance.  It was childish, says Weber, and dangerous for liberal members of the Senate.  “For one thing, many of them face re-election when the time comes in states that voted overwhelmingly in favor of Mr. Trump for a variety of reasons, not the least of which was that they did not want to upset the Constitutionalist balance on the high court,” according to Weber.

Orrin Hatch of Utah is one of the most responsible and respected Senators from either party in Congress and he said Democrats were acting “pretty irresponsibly.”  In fact, Hatch and a number of his Republican colleagues helped get several Democratic picks for the Supreme Court through confirmation over the years, including Justices Ruth Ginsburg, Elena Kagan and Stephen Breyer when their time came.  Says Hatch: “it’s disappointing that we can be very open and fair to their people but they can’t be very open and fair to ours.”

There was little doubt on either side of the aisle that Judge Gorsuch would be confirmed as the newest Justice on the Supreme Court.  And, Weber says “it is interesting to note that there are several other possible Justices who might retire soon, putting President Trump in the position of possibly changing the fundamentals of the Court for generations to come by appointing one or two more conservatives to the bench.  And, says Hatch, the shenanigans we saw this week will pale in comparison to the battle royale that will take place then; it will be ‘Armageddon’.”

Although unanimously elected the last time around, and although they could find nothing wrong with any of his past actions, democRats were out to stop Gorsuch from being elected simply because he was Trump’s pick. democRats are all about politics!

The bottom line is this…..Both parties need to grow up! Get over their over sized egos and stop behaving like 2 year Olds throwing temper tantrums. You ALL are elected by the people of this nation to SERVE the people of this nation. You are NOT little God’s and you are fast loosing the respect and trust of the American people (as shown in the last election). You have been given too much power and too many perks and have become horribly corrupt. If any of the middle class went to our jobs and behaved in the manner that some of you are behaving, I can guarantee that we would be fired. You are a breed that believes you are an entitled elite. Promoting your own selfish interests is more important than doing your jobs as grownups. You all seem to forget that you can and will be replaced if you don’t settle down. Qualities like trustworthiness, integrity, and working hard and cooperating for the best ideas has gone out the window. And….. common sense………that is unheard of anymore.

Well said Sloan. They are sent to DC to solve problems. Instead, its all petty political fights, spying, investigations that go nowhere, lots of excuses, and the citizens are the losers. What will it take for them to get the message that we the people are fed up and want change? Electing Trump doesn’t seem to have sent them the message. Instead of working with him, both sides and the media are trying to take him down.

I disagree with Mr. Weber when he says that the current senate is made up of 52 Republicans and 48 Democrats. There may be 52 senators with an R behind their name, but there are not 52 real Republicans in the senate. The so-called Republican majority is tenuous at best with Democrats in Republican cloaks the likes of John McCain, Susan Collins, Lisa Mcursky, Mitch McConnell, and Jeff Flake, just to name a few. I don’t believe these five can be depended upon to vote for sound Constitutional principles. Orrin Hatch used to be a solid constitutional Republican, but anymore. He ain’t the Republican he used to be. He spent too many years hob-knobbing with Senator Kennedy, in my estimation. He, along with McCain, needs to retire. l

Yep, Sen. Hatch (and McCain) should have graciously retired before taking the last term – Hatch is now 83, but he has been there in the Senate for 40 years. That’s too long, and I don’t care if he walks on water, or has more than enough contacts to get things done, anybody gets tired – I wanted out of my career after 30 years.

Blame the voters who put these relics back in office.

I agree. The voters are the ones who put their reps in those offices and I think because they get so comfortable with the same names on the ballot, they continually vote for them instead of facing reality in its true face. That’s why they get to stay in office well beyond their productive years and the Democrats are so expert at finding fault and complaining about the “other” party. It is getting so old and nerve-racking and they need to go at the next election!…both the Democrats and the DINOS in the Republican party. We need new blood in there to help get the work done. There should also be an age-limit on the people serving in those offices…83 like Hatch is way past his prime time!

Why do most writers continue to refer to democrat congressmen as “liberals/” They are extreme leftists. Another name that is particularly apt is communists. If the shoe fits wear it. Read saul alinsky and compare his edicts if you need further proof of the nomenclature.

You’re exactly correct, Hunt. You’ll notice that I always refer to them as Progressively Communist Democrats. The Democrats used to represent the Middle Class, but not anymore! As I point out to these young Bernie Sanders Democratic Socialists, there are only two classes of people in Socialism/Communism, rich and poor … What happened to the Middle Class??? … if it just gets them to think just a little … I call it planting a seed!

Just saying hi Rik. Another dismal set of articles being served up. As an example, this article was rendered completely moot by McConnell finally opting for the nuclear option on April 6th. So why it is the lead article today is just laziness on the part of AMAC editors. Anyway, have a good weekend.

Hi PaulE, yes I know, the other article on Obama’s spying is just another offshoot from a previous article on questions Susan Rice needs to answer which I responded to and then was immediately replaced with the current article. I try to constantly repeat my message about Progressively Communist Democrats because as you know I spent 44 years in advertising sales and repetition sells. I believe even half of Conservatives and/or Republicans don’t know the Saul Alinsky connection to Hillary and Obama past and need to know so they can educate others. And of course, I constantly harangue Democrats whenever possible though most refuse to believe nor bother to research my allegations to prove me wrong, which they can’t! They just stubbornly toe the Party line. … Intellectual morons! … it’s frustrating even here amongst some AMAC members but that’s okay, I can be stubborn too! … Always enjoy your commentary, keep fighting the fight and you too, have a good weekend!

Or “Hippy/Liberal/Pervert/Progressive/Communist/Globalist/Muslim”. Everything and anything except “American”. Their goal is to destroy the Country and the Constitution by any means possible.

As you mentioned, the scribblings of Saul Alinsky plus the “45 Goals of Communism in America” are their bible. It is just so blindingly obvious who and what the “Democrat Party” is that it’s laughable.

Just try getting any brainwashed Millennial to open their eyes long enough to see that.

Democrats – “And then there were none…” Who can they blame? Start with Harry Reid, Mr. Smug then Schumer, Durbin, Hoyer, Feinstein, McCaskill, Franken, Pocahontas, Nelson and the rest of the impediments to personal freedom in this country. Now it is time for Tax Reform and Infrastructure Rebuilding and Jobs, Jobs, Jobs. Get back to work, Republicans, and don’t stay on that high horse too long or you get to start worrying yourselves.

Don’t forget Pelosi.. can’t stand her when ever she talks it is usually something absolutely ridiculous. I don’t care much for my other liberal representatives, one in the house and one besides Schumer in the Senate.

People need to realize the dangers of socialism; it almost destroyed New Zealand before they wised up, and it’s now destroying Brazil; when are people going to wise up. Chuck — you’re right about certain Republicans (RINOs) — they have the nerve to keep sending me “surveys” that ask for money — I tell them that until they get on board with President Trump, they aren’t getting a penny from me.

Look what socialism is doing to Venezuela. Ambushing delivery trucks because the government can no longer afford to pay adequate welfare. Venezuela raised the price of oil for Curacao. Curacao dropped Venezuela and is getting its oil from Brazil. Even socialism eventually has to abide by the free market.

It’s too bad these elected officials don’t spend more of their time trying to improve the country instead of acting like peacocks in full plumage trying to keep attention . They act like spoiled brats who aren’t getting the candy they want. It’s time to have common sense, good morals and people who care about this country in Washington. I support President Trump!

Well Progressively Communist Democrats, there’s an old saying… “What’s good for the goose, is good for the gander!” … or how about … “turnabout is fair play” … Thanks Harry for creating the “nuclear option”! Justice Ginsburg should have retired while Obama was still President, wouldn’t be great if she can’t stick around till next election? … or maybe Justice Kagan will “suddenly” pass away like Scalia did, and with no autopsy either. … Of course, I would just tell Chuckie Schlemiel that “the end justifies the means!” and have a nice weekend Chuckie! Har, har!
