FBI Admits to Using Left-Wing Southern Poverty Law Center

FBI justice Comey McCabe lawSecretary of Housing and Urban Development Ben Carson is an extremist: At least that is the assertion of the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC). Not only is that assertion absurd, it is highly subjective, and in the United States, the expression of such opinions, however ludicrous, is protected by the First Amendment.

But this week it was revealed that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) uses such subjective assertions by the SPLC to monitor alleged “hate groups,” which may reveal a great deal about the political bias existing inside the Bureau. In 2009, the first year of the Obama presidency, the FBI called the SPLC a “well-known, established, and credible” organization.

Representative Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) is disturbed that the FBI continues to have a favorable relationship with the SPLC, and in a letter to the FBI, he wrote, “This is surprising and worrisome, as the SPLC is known to use its platform in order to denigrate and disparage certain groups by labeling them ‘hate groups.’ The SPLC’s conflation of mainstream political advocacy groups with legitimate hate groups and domestic terror groups is absurd, frequently indiscriminate and dangerous.”

The best-known example of just how dangerous such a designation can be is the 2012 shooting of an employee of the Family Research Council in the FRC’s Washington office. The FRC is one of dozens of groups listed on the SPLC’s “hate map,” found on its website, along with blatantly racist groups such as the Ku Klux Klan.

Floyd Corkins of Virginia pled guilty in 2013 to that shooting, saying he disagreed with the FRC’s stance against same-sex “marriage.” He was sentenced to 25 years in prison. The shooting took place in Washington at the conservative policy group’s office. The research council is a Christian group that focuses on family, protecting the life of the unborn, and supporting religious liberty. The FRC considers homosexuality harmful.

Corkins found out about FRC’s views from the SPLC.

Investigators also discovered 15 Chick-fil-A sandwiches in his backpack when he was arrested. He later explained that his intent was to smash the sandwiches in the faces of the staffers he expected to kill at the Family Research Council in Washington. The owner of Chick-fil-A, Truett Cathey, is a Christian who has expressed opposition to same-sex “marriage.”

Jerry Boykin, the executive vice president of the Family Research Council, is incensed that the FBI continues to partner with the SPLC. “This Southern Poverty Law Center is an arm of the extreme Left,” he declared. “This hate labeling is totally illegitimate. It’s contrived and totally for political purposes.”

Boykin added, “I think the FBI is making a terrible mistake by doing this, given the track record of the Southern Poverty Law Center. This is more proof of a deep state. As far as I’m concerned, it delegitimizes so much of what the FBI does.”

That the FBI would partner with the SPLC certainly raises questions about some of its other activities, especially when it involves partisan politics — such as when former FBI Director James Comey opted to clear Democratic Party presidential candidate Hillary Clinton in the summer of 2016, and the adversarial role the FBI has played against President Donald Trump.

The FBI issued a statement, offering a defense of its relationship with SPLC. “The FBI has forged partnerships nationally and locally with many civil rights organizations to establish rapport, share information, address concerns, and cooperate in solving problems.”

“For many years, the FBI has engaged with various organizations, both formally and informally. Such outreach is a critical component of the FBI’s mission, and we welcome information from these organizations on any possible violation of civil rights, hate crimes or other potential crimes or threats,” the FBI explained.

“We do, however, evaluate our relationships with these groups as necessary to ensure the appropriateness of any interaction.”

The FBI is part of the Department of Justice, and Attorney General Jeff Sessions has ordered that its relationship with groups such as the SPLC be reevaluated. A statement from the DOJ said, “The attorney general has directed the FBI to re-evaluate their relationships with groups like this to ensure the FBI does not partner with any group that discriminates.”

Boykin responded, “If the FBI will follow through on that, I think it’s a great day in America.”

Part of that evaluation should consider the SPLC’s role in inspiring the shooting in 2012 at the headquarters of the Family Research Council. Another incident that should be a part of any such evaluation should be the settlement that SPLC had to pay out to the Quilliam Foundation, and its founder, Maajid Nawaz. SPLC was forced to pay $3.375 million for including that organization in its 2016 “Field Guide to Anti-Muslim Extremists.”

Oddly, Nawaz is not anti-Muslim. He is a Muslim who opposes terrorist activity in the name of Islam.

On its website, the SPLC states that its “Hatewatch is a blog that monitors and exposes the activities of the American radical right.” Perhaps what is needed is a blog that monitors and exposes the activities of the radical left Southern Poverty Law Center.

The author, Steve Byas explained this well. Wonder if Rep. Matt Gaetz concern went far in Congress and if the FBI is now out of colluding with the SPLC. Natural with the culture of the left, the example of violence it produces is educational and should be remembered.

I agree especially with your last sentence. The time is past due for these kinds of unobjective groups to cease and desist.

Comey & company have made FBI a criminal organization as remains to this day. Anyone knowingly working for a criminal organization is by definition a criminal. I don’t trust any Federal agent and neither should you.

Why is any “nonprofit” allowed to stash millions of dollars in off-shore accounts? https://freebeacon.com/politics/southern-poverty-law-center-90-million-offshore-funds/

The SPLC is a black racist group. Has been for as long as I can remember and I’m 75. Basically, any time you see that the SPLC is “against” something, you will find the “something” is anything but black. If they are for something, the something is black (or liberal or socialist). It’s just how they are.

The SPLC is far worse than just left-wing. They are radical left and doing everything they can to shut down any kind of opposition speech in this country by labelling it all as “hate speech”. Some of the huge internet giants are using the SPLC to censor anyone the SPLC targets, and they target every religious organization or other that does not support their radical point of view. They are a despicable organization that deserves to be ostracized by any intelligent American life. They would be more at home in the old USSR.

Par for the course, the FBI takes the SPLC’s (a left wing extremist hate group’s) advice and provided campaign assistance to the Hillary Clinton campaign in the form of letting Hillary off the hook from a surefire Espionage Act violation conviction and by spying on and smearing the Trump campaign. Even now the not so clean Mr. Mueller is still conducting his “investigation” based on a dossier birthed by the collusion between the Clinton campaign, the Russians, the DNC, and a disgraced former foreign agent. This unsavory affair in its entirety beckons the re-visitation of the whole concept of federal “law enforcement,” and of the question if and if so in what form the FBI can still have a role and a future in this Republic

For the sake of America ! Let’s abolish the F.B.I. entirely. Save the few good guys and put them under the U.S. Marshall Office and flush the rest of them down the toilet !! “IT’S TIME TO DRAIN THE SWAMP”

The radio commentators I’ve heard say that the rank and file members of FBI are hard working people who are as disgusted with their bosses as we are.

So get rid of these bosses and let these hard working people take over their jobs.

To Glenn and Shelia,

The rank and file of the FBI and the DOJ are actually hard working, honest people, who only want to do their jobs fairly and honestly. They are sick and tired of the politicization of which cases to work on, which methods to use based on who is being investigated and whether or not someone would be charged with a crime depending on which political party they belong to coming down from senior leadership at both FBI and DOJ. There are no doubt quite a few people within the FBI and DOJ that could be take the places of the corrupt leadership in both areas. Of course Sessions won’t do anything and Trump can’t do anything, because the moment he starts cleaning house, the MSM and the Democrats will be chanting “Impeach! Impeach! Impeach!” non-stop with several Congressional RINO’s more than happy to play along. Of course the Congress could shut Mueller down tomorrow by defunding him, but the very same RINO’s who would go along with Dems to impeach Trump are the same ones saying “We have to let the Mueller investigation play out” for the rest of Trump’s time in office or until the Dems re-take the House and start impeachment hearings. So Trump’s hands are kind of tied due to lousy Republican Congressional leadership. that is in place right now.

Just as a point of history Bill Clinton started this mess in the 90’s, when he started purging any senior leadership in federal government, military included, that wasn’t on board with the Democrat agenda. Bush did absolutely nothing to correct the mess and Obama just ratcheted up the politicization of the senior leadership of all federal departments and agencies to epic levels. All with the expectation that Hillary would be elected and serve as his third and forth terms. By the conclusion of which the country would no longer be a representative republic, but instead would be a Euro-style socialist democracy. So it should NOT come as a surprise to anyone that the FBI, along with several other federal departments and agencies, have ties to such leftist organizations as the SPLC.

We have to get Paul Ryan out and Jim Jordan in ASAP as Speaker. Not wait until after the elections, when the RINO’s hope the Dems will control the House. McConnell has to either end the filibuster rule or be replaced in his Senate role. There are certainly a few Senators capable of serving in that position, that would do a better job. All these politically motivated Congressional hearings, because the Dems and Hillary are upset she lost and therefore Trump or the Russians are to blame, have to be brought to a quick end. Congress can then either impeach Rod Rosenstein and the rest of the leadership at FBI and DOJ behind this nonsense or Congress can defund the Mueller probe and end the “insurance policy” (the Special Council investigation is the insurance policy for those of you who don’t know it) monopolizing so much time and money. Then Trump can fire Sessions and put someone decent in as AG.

Just a thought.

So then, where are they? If a good number don’t like what was & is going on, how come they don’t say something?

Hell, here I thought the SPLC was the ‘Southern Pricks Leftist Center’. They have been the most useless organization in the country and my guess is that they rip off donations just like the Clinton Illegal Center. This outfit spews hate in the black community!

Anything Soros supported is pure poison. The SPCL’s credibility with anyone politically aware, beyond what the MSM spews, is less than zero. Vile hate-mongers casting stones. Projection at its best…or worst.

The SPLC doesn’t pass the smell test. When I was a child my parents told me to choose my friends wisely, because who you choose as friends is what you become. I guess those in charge of of appropriations, which fund the FBI, in essence the FBI’s “bank” have not set up rules as to who the FBI should chum with.
Example, while in the military, I was told to watch what I do outside the base, because anything I did wrong, or was perceived as wrong by civilians outside the Air Force base was a reflection against Shepherd Air Force base. So the knowledge is there how the FBI should carry itself in front of the world.
So the question is, why doesn’t the FBI chain of command and down, not want to pass the smell test?

I think no matter where military people are stationed they are cautioned to watch what they do when off their bases since it is a reflection against the US armed forces. I know when I was in the Navy it was so.

How come the these haters don’t monitor Left Wing hate sites? Maybe because they support violence generated by the Left. Might be time to expose this FAKE organization. They hide their money off shore to avoid paying lawsuits that name them as defendants. Publish their Board members names and addresses so maybe the right can confront them in public places as the Democrat Party advocates for against Trumps’ supporters.
