Feds Discover Largest Oil, Natural-Gas Reserve in History

pipeline oil natural gas reserve

The federal government has discovered a massive new reserve of oil and natural gas in Texas and New Mexico that it says has the “largest continuous oil and gas resource potential ever assessed.”

“Christmas came a few weeks early this year,” Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke said of the new reserve, which is believed to have enough energy to fuel the U.S. for nearly seven years.

In all, the new reserve is said to contain 281 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, 46.3 billion barrels of oil, and 20 billion barrels of natural-gas liquids, the Interior Department’s U.S. Geological Survey said.

Almost a third of the U.S.’s total crude-oil production comes from the Permian Basin where the reserve was found, making it the biggest shale-oil-producing region in the U.S.

“American strength flows from American energy, and as it turns out, we have a lot of American energy,” said Zinke. “Before this assessment came down, I was bullish on oil and gas production in the United States. Now, I know for a fact that American energy dominance is within our grasp as a nation.”

When oil was first discovered here there was no one to think of our grazing animals, just how much money could be made. It didn’t take much time to have those same animals grazing in the same areas again. We’re in a different time right now. There are discoveries of cleaner energy. Don’t get the idea I’m against oil and natural gas. I’m not. I don’t know how long it will be that we won’t need as much as we do now but, we do need it now to help some of the new energy better itself. Gas and oil run our country. There is nothing that can replace these products entirely at present. I can see our discoveries going overseas to our closet friendly nations not in large quantities but, just enough that they don’t have to do business with our combined enemies. For the last 20 + years international relations have been questionable. Trumps foreign relations have improved our image. It’s helping MAGA as well as helping other nations. Put simply, what helps America helps the world. Progressivism in it’s true form is worthwhile but, when one political party takes it to socialism it becomes close to dictatorship which this countries foundation helped us to overcome with our Bill of Rights, our Declaration of Independence and our Constitution. You folks decide which political party is trying to bring us down. That’s it in a nutshell. Which party is taking away your ability to make your own decisions. Are the politicians paying attention to you? Are they making promises that are dragging the country into deeper debt? Think for yourselves after seeking facts. J.F.

Do not allow this oil or natural gas to be transported – used in states that think fossil fuels are a danger to the planet.Let em freeze in the dark.

Such a childish remark. How about those states withhold the food they produce so you can starve since you can’t produce it yourself.

I would like to See More Refineries Built Closer to the Source, that way Only the Cost of Production Need be Charged as the Oil could be Piped to the Nearby Refinery, Cheap. Lower the Cost of Gasoline and Reclaim the Middle Class. Please

I agree with Trucker 582. We are the people, not big government or the oil industry.

I hope we never run out of oil! But, it just seems inevitable.

We’ve heard this back thru the ’60s, that we have enough oil and nat gas to last lifetimes over. Then the 70’s came with the embargos, and opec, and suddenly… shortages, gas wars. We need to stop listening to talking heads, and realize that we the people are in charge of our own realitys, and stop this train. The government will say anything to quiet our thoughts, and keep us enslaved to them. “WE THE PEOPLE”!

That was before fracking went mainstream and improvement in drilling technology. The only thing better is the new nuclear technology.

What is disturbing about this is that we went through the B.S. to get drilling all over this country where there is oil, we find it, drill for it, ship it through half the country and do what with it, export it!!! We are now a net exporter! What happened to the energy independence and the lower gas prices that help our own citizens. I have no problem with the drilling, etc. because we need it but it is our countries oil, not a cash cow for that industry.

AND, at the same time we are still importing oil from middle east!!!!!

I think we can still be an exporter and still have plenty for the Americans to enjoy. We have had to rely on others for our gas and oil for so long and it’s time for America to become independent and an exporter and keep our money at home. Long over-due. Time to reap the rewards.

Looks like more AMERICAN energy for export. What is wrong with us. DRILL HERE, PAY LESS. A bumper sticker still on my car. We were to be “energy independent”, but now we are the worlds largest energy EXPORTER.

Mr Wesley, why can’t we be both…independent as well as exporter? I think that’s what Pres. Trump has in mind anyway. We have to remember we have a “new sheriff” in town now who does not think like the typical politician does, because he possesses better business sense. I can respect that.

This good news indeed! The less we have to depend on oil and natural gas from overseas and from North American neighbors the better. This must be bad news to our enemies, to those in and out of our country.

It’s America’s turn to turn a profit and keep all those billions spent over seas, right here at home and create even more jobs………..it’s way long over due!

Imagine That, God give prophecy to Mark Taylor about America becoming energy independent at least a decade before all this had been found. God also told Mark about President Trump becoming President and more. So Mark Taylor and Kim Clement gave us prophecy from God about America’s future. My suggestion to those that don’t believe is to read. Support our President Trump and pray. God bless you all, God bless America.

This is great! I wish we could develop our huge U.S. supply of rare earth metals in the same way. We had a rare earth mine that was shuttered because China sells rare earth metals at extremely cheap prices. Everyone buys rare earth metals from them. Some years back, China reduced exports and drove the price of these metals up. When competition appeared, they dropped their prices and drove the competition from the market. We need to be independent from foreign resources as much as possible.

It’s much cheaper to just import then trying to develop domestic sources with all the regs by the enviros.

The oil is great! We need new refineries in our nation.! No sending the crude out to be refined and then importing refined!!

‘The Feds” have never discovered anything! The headline should read “Federal Bureaucracy announces that they’ve just become aware of oil reserves that private companies discovered some time ago”.

I worked (very briefly) in the oil industry. Discovery of oil is an ongoing effort. More often than not, after a productive well is discovered, it’s capped and only brought online if and when needed. By “needed”, I mean when financially expedient. I have no “proof”, but suspect that “expedient” includes politically expedient. This particular “discovery” may not have been of the oil itself, but (with Trump’s people heading DOE) a discovery that its existence was covered up. It’s pretty obvious the previous administration had an agenda that didn’t want America to succeed. And cheap oil contributes greatly to America’s success.

Time to tap that!? Completely cut ties with the hostile foreign countries that like to hold their resources over our heads and open up a new source of income for us by selling our cheaper resources from a much more reliable country- us!!

Oh no. Not more oil and gas to help America be energy independent! Affordable energy at that. No, we need to keep spending huge sums of money on undependable and out-of-control expensive solar and wind farms. That way we can keep taking public land away from Americans, and kill off many protected bird species.

ELE0129

Solar and wind are the future. Fossil fuels ate killing the environment and taking more public land than those two combined. The number of species going extinct increases at an alarming rate and we need to do something…now.
