GOP Readies Cuts to Federal Workforce Under Trump

fedworkers-finalfrom – RollCall.com – by Jonathan Miller

For years, Republicans in Congress have been eyeing an overhaul of the federal workforce — by reducing the number of workers and curtailing benefits and pay while making it easier to fire bad employees.

Now, with a president-elect who has promised to do much the same, 2017 could be the best time in recent memory to make sweeping changes affecting those who work for the bureaucracy…

Earn your pay!!! No matter in whose employ, if you don’t earn your pay you have no right to be retained. I have seen in government those who work conscientiously & those who just drift along at the expense of those who earn. their pay & at the expense of the fleeced taxpayer. Dead wood should be removed from the swamp. It’s decay produces a bad stench. Government organizations should be run as productively & efficiently as private enterprises. Maybe what we need in the White House is a successful business leader, rather than a know-nothing politician, who knows how to get things done & knows when to say, “Your Fired!.” Oh, excuse me, I forgot, we soon will have one of those in the White House. And it’s about time!!! Only eons overdue!

Its about time. The deadwood needs eliminated and the federal government is full of deadwood. Its past time the government was run similar to a highly efficient corporation that demands performance and productivity from the labor force. I have advocated for an immediate 10% across the board cut in every federal department except defense with 5% cuts every year thereafter for at least the next five years. Real cuts, not the phony government accounting that is just a lesser rate of growth. Add that government pension programs are a disgraceful giveaway far exceeding what would be considered a fair retirement program in the private sector and those pensions need seriously cut also. Government unions at all levels negotiate their labor agreements with politicians who do not have to pay the benefits since they’re spending taxpayer money and who receive political contributions from the unions and their members. It is a massive conflict of interest and the average taxpayer is shafted in the process. It needs to stop.

Don’t just shift bureaucracies’ generous cadillac retirement benefits to 401K but put all of them on Social Security just like the private sector. And make it retroactive. Fair is fair. That includes ALL of Congress, ALL of Judiciary, All of Federal departments, ALL of state and local institutions.

All federal employees should have to contribute their own money towards their retirement fund including congress. Also, the formula used to determine how much they receive after retirement needs to be adjusted to more resemble the private market.

Many FED/GOV Agencies must be eliminated/closed/defunded/and all of the assets sold….. i.e., : IRS, BLM, EPA, DHS, VA……all of these massively corrupt, useless, massively expensive waste of taxpayers hard earned cash are beyond fixing…..and in addition those Affirmative Action crooked/criminal/corrupt employees should be arrested, charged and placed in prison. All benefits by those found guilty to be eliminated & bonuses repaid to FED/GOV, with interest.

I hope they start with the IRS. Obamacare is going to be repealed therefore no need for all the people hired to enforce compliance.

I am sure there are a lot of good employees who work hard and they are the ones who need to keep their jobs. Supervisors know who those employees are because THEY are the ones who can be relied on to get the job done.

Hi Ham, you are so correct! … Trump can start with the 12,000 attorneys that Obama added after the bill was passed. It always irked me, why attorneys and not accountants? In fact, Trump should layoff EVERY attorney in ALL agencies except in the Justice Department. Send them off to earn an “honest” living. … Oh, sorry, I forgot, there’s no such thing as an “honest” attorney!!!

Hi Rik,

It’s actually 16,000 that were authorized and hired by the IRS to enforce Obamacare compliance. All the more to fire upon repeal of this horrendous program.

Likewise the VA with it’s Death By Delay Policy and the Disabled Veterans with maggot infested wounds.

Veterans who don’t have access to good VA doctors and hospitals or one within a reasonable distance from where they live should be allowed to go to private doctors and hospitals. Trump has said this already and needs to be held to that. Our veterans deserve to be treated better than they some have been in the past.

According to some veterans on this forum there are some good VA hospitals so maybe the bad ones should to be identified & closed. Whether the VA Agency should be eliminated is something that will have to be determined.

Was going to reply, but Ham beat me to the punch. At a campaign stop in Virginia in July of this year, DJT said, “Veterans should be guaranteed the right to choose their doctor and clinics, whether at a VA facility or at a private medical center.”

Hi Rik, I totally agree with your idea(s), however, there really are some GOOD attorneys….for example, Jay Sekulow and his group at the ACLJ. They fight, every day, for real justice.

Then there is the 21 aides to the so-called first lady. Does one remember that Laura Bush only had one? Also the frivolous trips by the potus , and his family, and special plane for his cotton picking dog. The whole federal gov. has been living high on the hog for the last eight yrs. at the expense of our loyal taxpayers.. It has to stop NOW.

Worked in the VA system 20 yrs; lower level employees [GS 1-9] are the worker bees. GS 12 and above is where the cuts should begin-generally speaking -they hand down the rules, evaluations, keep the employees that make them look good. If you really want to get fired in the VA, tell the truth. Whistle blower protection is a myth, at one staff meeting, my supervisors stated she was not worried about whistle blowers as 98 % of them were dismissed anyway.
