Millions in Tax Dollars Stolen Via Welfare and Sent to Terrorist Group

cash million dollars burn stolenIt sounds like something from a movie: A man is caught at an airport with one million dollars in cash in a carry-on suitcase. Yet in what some have called the “worst scandal in Minnesota history,” this scene plays out weekly at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, with more than $100 million dollars leaving country and ending up in the Middle East and North Africa just last year. The kicker?

Some of it is your tax money — and some of it went into the hands of a terrorist group.

While they probably weren’t told to beware the Ides of March, a 3/15 tip about the one-million-dollar man did lead media outlet Fox 9 to the story. As it reported Sunday, the currency was from “Hawalas,” Islamic-model businesses sometimes used by immigrants “to courier money to countries that have no official banking system” — and little law and order. Thus did former Seattle police detective Glen Kerns discover that “some of the money was being funneled to a Hawala in the region of Somalia that is controlled by the al Shabaab terrorist group,” the news organ further informed.

Yet the story gets even worse. Fox 9 again:

As Kerns dug deeper, he found that some of the individuals who were sending out tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of remittance payments happened to be on government assistance in this country.

How could they possibly come up with such big bucks to transfer back home?

“We had sources that told us, ‘It’s welfare fraud, it’s all about the daycare,’” said Kerns.

…Five years ago the Fox 9 Investigators were first to report that daycare fraud was on the rise in Minnesota, exposing how some businesses were gaming the system to steal millions in government subsidies meant to help low-income families with their childcare expenses.

“It’s a great way to make some money,” Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman said.

In order for the scheme to work, the daycare centers need to sign up low income families that qualify for child care assistance funding.

Surveillance videos from a case prosecuted by Hennepin County show parents checking their kids into a center, only to leave with them a few minutes later. Sometimes, no children would show up.

Either way, the center would bill the state for a full day of childcare.

Video from that same case shows a man handing out envelopes of what are believed to be kickback payments to parents who are in on the fraud.

Ah, our tax money at work.

Worse still, Kerns reports that it doesn’t even matter if the money is sent back home for legitimate purposes: When it enters areas controlled by al Shabaab, the jihadist group demands a cut.

Fox 9 reports as well that the daycare scam is common in the Somali immigrant community, with 10 centers currently being investigated and dozens more under suspicion.

It’s so common, in fact, that a Somali-descent politician was involved. Fox 9 tells us that at the very moment Fozia Ali was being sworn in as a member of the city of Hopkins Park Board, vowing to “support the constitution of the United States,” she was under investigation for scamming more than $1 million dollars through her Salama Child Care Center in south Minneapolis. “Ali submitted claims for payment through the state-and federally funded Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) that falsely inflated the number on any given day by 80 or more children, including days when Salama was closed,” wrote the Star Tribune last year, providing more detail. She’s now serving time in a federal prison.

This story again illustrates why that “government is best which governs the least,” to quote the famous saying now attributed to The United States Magazine and Democratic Review. Were the Constitution followed, the feds couldn’t be in the handout business. This would ensure at least a measure of subsidiarity — the principle stating that tasks in society should be performed by the smallest possible unit — as entities closer to the people (states, towns, organizations, etc.) would administer aid.

Of course, private entities deliver “organized charity” best because, next to individuals, they’re closest to the beneficiaries. Being “on the ground” where the aid is given and being acquainted with the community, they may know who’s legitimate and who’s a scammer, and they often have the flexibility to deny aid based on common-sense judgment.

In contrast, nameless, faceless government bureaucrats don’t know the aided from Adam, generally don’t care and, regardless, must follow procedures — even when those unbending rules enable con artists.

As for the Minnesota case, why has such an outrageous example of fraud received so little press? One obvious reason is that since it illustrates the folly of big government, focus on it would discredit the statism the media so love. Moreover, as commentator John Hinderaker writes, “I suspect that many of Minnesota’s liberals think that our bureaucrats performed their jobs very well: they siphoned off hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars to finance liberal constituencies — the principal purpose of government, according to our lib friends.”

For sure. Facilitating big government, buying votes via state largesse, and satisfying the internationalist goal of redistributing American wealth overseas are leftist priorities. As for the money financing al Shabaab, well, ever hear about how you must break a few eggs to make an omelet?

Novel idea, deport those who are caught cheating the system, parents and day care providers. As an American, no one helped me when my children were in daycare and I was working. Why should I be expected to pay for someone else? You have kids, then support them yourselves or don’t have them. Same goes for the welfare queens who pop them every few years for more money.

Disgusting. Plus all foreign aide should be redirected to senior aide and veteran aide.

Minnesota is the perfect place for this. That state is so damn, sickeningly liberal. They have a Muslim representative in Congress and loads of muzzie immigrants. Minnesotans deserve what they get.

Trump has made our FREE money give away stricter and FAIRER for the tax payer there is STILL a LOT to get in order to make it BETTER for the people that REALLY NEED it. – There is STILL a LOT going where it should NOT go because they do NOT actually need it and they us it to FUND terrorist groups and to drain our economy and THAT is BANKRUPTING our economy and DESTROYING everything we hold that made America GREAT. – – WE NEED to make the WELFARE SYSTEM FAIRER for those that ACTUALLY need and use it without having to LIE and CHEAT to get it like SOME are doing and IT IS very BAD for our economy because it causes some to LOOSE their welfare because of those that do NOT need it to STAY ALIVE and happy and be able to work like they should be doing at jobs they can do to help their families live a happy life.

Why do we even accept immigrants from [email protected] countries like Ethiopia? Scamming each other is a way of life in many Islamic countries. It is even considered a laudatory thing to scam infidels (we non believers of Islam) and helps you reach your goal of going to Islamic heaven.

Harsh as it may seem, we need to be more viligent in monitoring how money is distributing especially money from any type of government money because of the high fraud used to obtain the funds. The reliance of just paperwork reports alone has to stop because they can be easily as this article shows fraudulently written with totals puffed up to increase funding.
The US has gained the reputation over the centuries as being the place to gain a fortune without the pressure to be a full time citizen, so many have come to take and leave. We need to weed out these abuser scammers like the push to eliminate members of the drug cartels who sneak in and out of the country freely.
Glad that they finally caught this person but it doesn’t eliminate the problem.

Liberals are going to cry about some “ism”–I don’t know antiSomaliaism? and whatever other nationalities are involved in the theft of tax payer money. I suppose the people involved will claim, “well, in OUR culture, in OUR country, this is how we do things.” So, of course, in the name of cultural equality or tolerance, we will have to give them a break!! Oh, and don’t expect them to assimilate once they are reminded (because they already know) that this isn’t the way it is done in America! Well, we do have our share of Americans scamming the wefare and other systems. Which really does bring us back to this article and to what I have said for years—less federal government anything, no federal government in some things–state and local governments should be in charge of each city and state. Churches and charities have been hobbled in helping the less-fortunate by government intrusion. To hear some people, volunteering is low–of course, people don’t really look into all the volunteer hours actually being spent, because volunteers aren’t doing it for recognition. I remember GWB at one time was trying to push a mandate about making people volunteer. Really, if you are required by law to do something–is that really called volunteering? And, of course, people who work, pay taxes, anyone NOT on a government program would have been required, but those RECEIVING (who are spending 40+ hr/week working) couldn’t (gasp) be expected to do anything, because their entitlements are FREE–nothing expected in return.

What has happened at the federal level has also happened to large corporations. The CEO’s can loose focus on operations and the whole conglomerate becomes dysfunctional and inefficient. I saw it happen to Digital. But the other big problem with a large overbearing government is special interests and politics corrupts the process. Programs of this nature are best handled at the state or community level, not at a remote government level. Best the federal government stay out of welfare- social programs altogether and just regulate interstate commerce, pollution, foreign affairs and defense. I’m sure enterprising people can come up with better solutions these days.

The term “entitlement” is a misnomer for our welfare system. Most of these people aren’t entitled to squat. They’re scammers. This welfare system foments laziness and dependency. A dependency that once started continues as anticipated income. A way to generate democrat voters.

The best solution is to eliminate ALL government welfare from the federal to the local levels. Why should we hard working seniors support the lazy illegitimate cash cows?

I’ve been saying this for decades, but with half the damn country on welfare, food stamps or unemployment, how can anyone with the balls to do it get elected?

One more reason that only TAXPAYERS should be allowed to vote.
If you want us to support you, you should have NO SAY in how this country is run.

Not one damn thing will be done because of who runs the local government. If it stinks and it upsets you you need to make a bigger stink. Eternal vigilance. These people are corrupt in their nature and they are over running us. am i racist ? No i am not but i see things for what they are and i wont pussyfoot around them….you shouldnt either. After all it is our country. and it is being stolen from us all bit by bit. Look at the demographics and do that research. You will not like what you see.

Definitely make sure we vote in ’18 and ’20, because these people will be! Also, we have to vote in large enough numbers just to offset the illegal voting on the left!

Agree. This is suppose to be “government of – by – and for the people. It’s up to us. President Trump is under the law too, and his power is restricted (as it should be) . We have the power – the power of the vote, but Thomas is correct about illegal voting on the left and Soros only works towards destruction of anything good, so be informed. And what is going to be done about the fraudsters in Minnesota and all the others fraudsters involved in this scam against the United States. What happens to the sleezy politician Fozia Ali who was scamming more than $1 million dollars through her Salama Child Care Center in south Minneapolis. I want to know if she was prosecuted and thrown in jail???? I want to know what happens to all of these people who are found accountable/responsible for this kind of crime? Where is the investigative journalism articles about this sleeziness from foreign lands–more Alinsky tactics, get these foreign traitors to get into the community and then use this country to benefit their causes…..the left gets more and more exposed and no doubt Soros and Obama’s finger prints are all over this kind of undermining of the US.
