New Data Leads to Compassionate Policy Suggestions for COVID Care Endorsed by AMAC

COVIDWASHINGTON, DC, DEC 4 — “One of the most rational approaches to the global COVID crisis is being ignored by overly cautious authorities and the mainstream media; it’s an authoritative report that puts the pandemic in a new perspective,” says Rebecca Weber, CEO of the Association of Mature American Citizens [AMAC].

The Great Barrington Declaration is the result of the investigation of various studies; the scientists who contributed to it are Jay Bhattacharya MD, PhD, professor of medicine at Stanford University, epidemiologist Martin Kulldorff, PhD, professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and Brigham & Women’s Hospital and Sunetra Gupta, PhD, professor of theoretical epidemiology at Oxford University.

“Their analysis shows that the death rate from COVID-19 is not three percent of people who are infected; it’s more like 0.2 or 0.3 percent and that the mortality rate among young patients is significantly lower than it is for adults over 70 years of age.”

Dr. Bhattacharya recently authored a summary of their findings.  In it, he wrote: “the World Health Organization said back in early March that three percent of people who get COVID die from it; they were wrong by at least one order of magnitude. The COVID fatality rate is much closer to 0.2 or 0.3 percent. The reason for the highly inaccurate early estimates is simple: in early March, we were not identifying most of the people who had been infected by COVID.”

He explained that at the beginning of the pandemic only a small fraction of infected people who “went to the hospital were identified as cases.”  Bhattacharya points out that in many situations infected individuals had mild or no symptoms, weren’t hospitalized and, thus, weren’t part of the COVID count.  Thus, it created misleading data, including an ambiguous death rate.”

As he put it in his summary:  “In April, I ran a series of studies, using antibody tests, to see how many people in California’s Santa Clara County, where I live, had been infected. At the time, there were about 1,000 COVID cases that had been identified in the county, but our antibody tests found that 50,000 people had been infected—i.e., there were 50 times more infections than identified cases. This was enormously important, because it meant that the fatality rate was not three percent, but closer to 0.2 percent; not three in 100, but two in 1,000.”

Since then, he said, 82 similar studies were conducted around the world and they all showed fatality rates of about 0.2 percent.

Meanwhile, there emerged a perception that the population at large is at risk.  But, as Bhattacharya said in his report “this couldn’t be further from the truth. There is a thousand-fold difference between the mortality rate in older people, 70 and up, and the mortality rate in children. In some sense, this is a great blessing. If it was a disease that killed children preferentially, I for one would react very differently. But the fact is that for young children, this disease is less dangerous than the seasonal flu. This year, in the United States, more children have died from the seasonal flu than from COVID by a factor of two or three.

“If you look at studies worldwide, the COVID fatality rate for people 70 and up is about four percent—four in 100 among those 70 and older, as opposed to two in 1,000 in the overall population.”

In conclusion, Drs. Bhattacharya, Gupta and Kulldorff are of the same opinion: “that the widespread lockdown policy has been a devastating public health mistake. In response, we wrote and issued the Great Barrington Declaration, which can be viewed—along with explanatory videos, answers to frequently asked questions, a list of co-signers, etc.—online at”

An excerpt from the Declaration makes it clear what it’s prime purpose is:

“As immunity builds in the population, the risk of infection to all—including the vulnerable—falls. We know that all populations will eventually reach herd immunity—i.e., the point at which the rate of new infections is stable—and that this can be assisted by (but is not dependent upon) a vaccine. Our goal should therefore be to minimize mortality and social harm until we reach herd immunity.

“The most compassionate approach that balances the risks and benefits of reaching herd immunity, is to allow those who are at minimal risk of death to live their lives normally to build up immunity to the virus through natural infection, while better protecting those who are at highest risk. We call this Focused Protection.”

AMAC’s Weber points out that “it is significant that nearly 50,000 medical and public health scientists and medical practitioners along with more than 673,000 concerned citizens worldwide, including me, have endorsed the Great Barrington Declaration.  The general population, including medical personnel and lay persons are invited to sign their concurrence with the conclusions of the Declaration at its Website.”

I lay in a Covid Unit for many days fighting this disease. It is real. With God’s help I survived. No, lockdown’s are NOT the answer. But please wear a mask in public and be careful. While in the Covid Unit I listened as the only visitors allowed in the halls were those who were going to say goodbye to their family member who would die in a matter of minutes. And my Republican doctors say, “Yes, get the vaccine, we have no idea how long your antibodies may last!” Be careful out their,!

Yes, Olivia, it is a real disease. Yes, those who contract it are suffering and early on there were many deaths. However, the additional research that has been done has found that it is not a “respiratory” disease, and many who were put on ventilators with no improvement were treated incorrectly. Those treatments were based on early ideas that patients were not breathing in enough oxygen, but in actuality, their blood cells were not accepting the oxygen that was available. The later research showed that the virus coopted the oxygen receptors in the blood, leaving the blood dark red – to the point of appearing black – and not allowing them to accept the oxygen that was already in the lungs. The treatment should have been related to the blood, not the lungs.

Additionally, when early treatment with certain drugs showed promise, the studies were suppressed, and some were run with toxic dosages of the drugs intended to overdose the patient, not using the generally prescribed dosages, and not prescribed until the patients were already too sick to benefit from the medication.

There were a number of reasons that the drugs were banned in certain areas (generally Democrat controlled), and patients were denied access to them – instead having to wait for a future vaccine and treatment (that would still be under patent and make a lot of money for companies and lobbyists – which would be shared to the politicians who banned the cheaper drug), Most of the reasons were political and had to do with the “swamp” regaining control of the country, and nothing to do with actually fighting the virus.

Call me naïve, call me a conspiracy theorist, call me anything you want, but FOLLOW THE MONEY.

One thing that I’m not going to call you is a doctor.

I think the health & government leaders should take this declaration seriously befor we reach the economic point of no return and fall into Communism, or a straightforward dictatorship. Goodbye USA.

We only need around 2 million deaths to achieve herd immunity and most of those will be olds!

John S. According to the US Census Bureau there were 54 million people in the US over the age of 65 on July 1 2019. This compares to 40.3 million in the 2020 census. Adding the annual rate of increase of 1.5 million per year (54 million – 40.3 million = 13.7 million. 13.7 / 9 = 1.52 million) would be 55.2 million today; however, since the population is aging lets just say that there are 60 million over the age of 65 today. The study AMAC is referring to notes that the rate of death for those over the age of 70 worldwide is 4 in 1000. So doing the math 60,000,000 / 1000 = 60,000 x 4 is 240,000 would die NOT 2 million. It is unreasoned hysteria that has taken away the liberties that nearly 400,000 US soldiers died to preserve in WWII and the US population at that time was 139.9 million. Worldwide 3.6 million would die. Per WebMD herd immunity is generally thought to be around 60-70 % of population has had the virus or has been immunized for the virus — in US 196 – 229 million. Protecting the vulnerable and letting the rest of the population get back to normal would achieve this level of protection much more quickly. Freedom is all about taking the risk and accepting the consequences of taking that risk!! I don’t need big government telling me what risks to take or not take. I can think for myself thank you very much!!

If they would rather die, said John, they had better do it, and decrease the surplus population.

The Covid Pandemic is just a means to an end or in other words … just Marxist philosophy! … The Progressively Communist Democrats are using it to spread fear and panic in order to seize power and control. Jackass Joe wants to make wearing masks mandatory even though you can still catch the virus through your eyes. Though I really do like seeing him wearing a mask because it reminds me that don’t ALL robbers and thieves wear a mask when committing a crime? We the People ALL KNOW that Jackass Joe Biden IS GUILTY of trying to steal the Presidency! The truth is coming out and the criminals are being exposed. Shouldn’t the Guilty parties be charged with TREASON?

I agree , I think there is no reason for us to wear the mask, and besides when COVID 19 started last March, they said we would only have to wear them for 2 weeks to flatten the curve, here it is December and we are still wearing them, they cause more harm than good. And Biden says if he gets in another 100 days of mask wearing, why did he pick that number? All a bunch of BS, most people know this, unless all they watch is msm.

If you are saying that we (including the medical professionals) didn’t know what we were doing back in March and April, you’re 100% correct. We have learned a lot since then.

The problem is that some politicians downplayed mask wearing initially and wouldn’t change their minds as we learned more about how Covid was transmitted. I don’t know about your state but in Illinois, the hospitals are starting to reach capacity again.

Would love your thoughts, please comment.x
