Rep. Bradley Byrne: Illegal-Alien Students Cost Americans $60B a Year

student illegal education cost expensive billionsRepresentative Bradley Byrne (R-Ala.) told fellow lawmakers during a congressional hearing on Wednesday that American taxpayers today pay approximately $60 billion to educate illegal-alien students and the children of illegal aliens.

In his remarks, Byrne noted that the burden of paying for the education of the more than 1.5 million legal and illegal immigrants that come into the country every year falls squarely on the shoulders of American citizens.

“In 2016, the Pew Research Center estimated that 3.9 million — or 7.3% — of kindergarten through 12th grade students in the United States were either here illegally or were the children of at least one parent illegally present in the United States,” Byrne said. “Can anyone tell me how much we spend on public education for that population of students? It’s around $60 billion.”

The Republican explained that while the federal government mandates English as a Second Language (ESL) programs for the roughly 9.6 percent of students in America classified as having Limited English Proficiency (LEP), it leaves the brunt of the costs to state and local governments.

“What percentage of ESL programs are paid for by the federal government that requires them? Just over one percent,” Byrne stated. “Who pays for the rest? States and local school systems.”

He continued:

So, we require it and we push 99 percent of the costs on state and local school systems. That costs a lot of money for these state and local school systems. Many of them, like my state of Alabama, just don’t have it. But because the federal government requires it, they have to put that money in there to the detriment of other programs.

That cost is not being borne by those of us in Washington. It’s being borne by men and women and the states and local school systems around the United States of America. But really the cost is being borne by children who are being denied the programs that they should have. Children who are citizens of the United States, whose parents are citizens of the United States, they’re being denied programs because we’re forcing their state and local school systems to take on an expense that we should be taking on because we’ve failed to enforce our own laws.

Residents of Worthington, Minnesota, have experienced the effects of mass migration on their education system firsthand. Last month, the town implemented a tax hike to provide an additional $34 million for the local school district, which has exploded in class enrollment due to migration.

study by Princeton Policy Advisors researcher Steven Kopits found that, at current migration levels, the United States could have nearly one million new migrant children by the November 2020 election — approximately 800,000 of whom would have to be enrolled in local school districts.

Minnesota has seen major demographic changes due to federal refugee resettlement programs. In fact, the state has the most refugees per capita of any in the union. Refugee resettlement has led to a large Somali population in Minnesota that made possible the election of Representative Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), who is Somali-born and one of the first two Muslim women to serve in Congress.

In September, President Trump signed an executive order requiring refugee resettlement agencies to get the consent of all states and localities in which they plan to place refugees.

The immigration lobby has opposed the executive order. And with good reason: There’s money to be made in the refugee business. Nonprofit contractors such as Church World Service, World Relief Corporation, and International Rescue Committee are paid $2,125 per refugee by the U.S. State Department for initial reception and placement, of which the nonprofits may take a cut of up to 45 percent.

As Michelle Malkin, author of the book Open Borders, Inc., noted:

In the 2016 annual report to Congress by the Office of Refugee Resettlement, the agency reported that in the year prior, 26.7% of refugees received cash assistance from at least one federal program; 66.1% of refugees had received noncash assistance such as SNAP (food stamps). The Federation for American Immigration Reform crunched the numbers in 2018 and estimated the annual cost of refugee resettlement to U.S. taxpayers at $1.8 billion, and $8.8 billion over a five-year period.

The immigrants are not only brought in to collect cash but because immigrants overwhelmingly vote Democratic/socialist. As TNA has previously reported, the open borders movement has a long record of being supported by communist organizations.

The leadership of the Abolish ICE/Occupy ICE, for example, includes veterans of radical groups such as the Revolutionary Communist Party (RCP), Communist Party USA (CPUSA), Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), and the National Lawyers Guild (NLG).

Congressman Byrne seemed to be saying the feds should be paying for these illegal alien students. Hell no! Whether it’s the feds or state/ local government, it’s taxpayers that are paying for this outrage!!

Tell me about it! I live in the Communist Sanctuary State of California. High taxes, high gasoline prices, high everything and the still don’t have enough to support their social programs. They will never have enough of our money. This state is a prime example of corruption to the very top and look who our representatives are (I live in Sanctuary San Francisco) Diane Feinstein, Nancy Pelosi, Kamala Harris, and in other areas Jackie Speier, and so forth, the list is long.

Our legislature has a “Super Majority” and the pass all insane laws they can to disarm the citizens (so there won’t be any opposition), tax the homeowners so they lose their homes (that is on the horizon, since they want to remove or make moot our Proposition 13 that was passed years ago to protect homeowners from unreasonable tax heights and taxes. It was a voters proposition), robbing the gasoline taxes (which was to be used for road maintenance and to support their socialist programs (that is why our roads are deteriorating. We used to have the best roads in the nation.

We do not enroll students without their shots. They should not be enrolled unless they and their parent(s) can prove citizenship or a legal right to be here.

I agree with most of the comments, but how do we begin to turn things around? In my opinion, the radical, left-wing activists (formerly known as teachers) in our public schools and universities have indoctrinated our children to believe that the right and noble thing to do is to let all people from all over the world just flood into our country at will, and that everything should be given to everybody for free. Their version of “free” is far from free! There is a cost associated with everything. Big corporations and the wealthy will not just sit back and write checks to support these radical programs. They will pack up and move to other countries which will further erode our tax base and we will end up becoming a 3rd world country. We must find a way to educate our children about the realities of life (either through home schooling or forming community organizations that hold teachers accountable) . The purpose of education is to teach our children the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for them to get jobs, support themselves (and eventually families of their own) and become responsible, taxpaying, and socially contributing members of society. However, If the jobs are not available, if payroll taxes are sky high, or if wages have been depressed by cheap imported labor, American children have no chance of success. The next thing we must do is flush out the radical leftists in government (Federal, State and Local). I’m sorry to say that Virginia just turned completely blue (Democrat) in the last midterm election. We have a governor who thinks it’s OK to kill babies after they’re born and a Lieutenant Governor who has been accused of sexual assault by multiple women. Conservatives must take these state and local elections seriously. We should encourage qualified, like-minded conservative people to run for public office. We need to get out to vote in “every” election. It matters!

Please explain. How is it legal for a person who is NOT A Citizen of the United States of America to VOTE ????
Much less hold office ???
It would be hard to wade through a lot of long legal stuff . But This question has been on my mind for a long time .well Im sure it goes back to someone who didn’t like what the Constitution said and had governed us for 100s of years. “ They said and PUSHED HARD thats not what the Constitution is REALLY saying. This is what the words really means “

Sincerely

Meanwhile, our seniors and veterans sit hungry and/or homeless. Lawyers are making good money with the increase in bankruptcy and debt relief compnies. It is absolutely ridiculous that illegals are getting more than THREE times what our elders are getting! Yet, the dems keep opposing Social Security cost of living increases. While “stealing” from us, which we paid into, to pay illegals and 2billion dollars for impeachment cost, which totally is not needed!

A law should be passed that only citizens should be allowed to vote! Also states should enact voter ID laws to prevent voter fraud. We should push to abolish birthright citizenship unless one parent is a citizen! If we don’t stand up now to take back our country from the socialist left-wing fanatics and the illegal immigrants that are pouring over our borders someday soon it may be too late.

I think a lot of people would be surprised to learn that students come over the border from Mexico every morning to attend school in the US, then go back to their homes in Mexico. We have witnessed this in one small city on the CA border, but we know it goes on elsewhere. Years ago when the “News Magazines” like 60 Minutes, Dateline, and 48 Hours did actual reporting on abuses like this, they had a report on this exact thing. Taxpayers foot the bill for a lot that they are unaware of, to the detriment of American children.

This cost does not include the free college educations these kids get either. As a single parent who had no consistent support while the kids were growing up and who took out loans when the kids couldn’t borrow anymore that year for college, I really resent all this free stuff illegals get. Join our country the right way, pay taxes and abide by our laws. THEN you are welcome to become an American citizen. I’m sure many other single parents, male or female, have been in the same situation I have.

If you want the USA education system fixed, then 2 things MUST happen.

First, the federal department of Education must be defunded and shut down. The U. S. Constitution did not give the federal government any right to or responsibility for education. Education was one of the things the Constitution left to the states and to the people. Education will flourish went responsibility is given back to the states and local school boards. When states set the standards for what must be taught in schools, parents through local school boards and PTAs have more control.

Second, Congress must be reminded that “charity is NOT theirs to give”. Charity is another of those things left to We the People. Government is not empowered to take from the productive to give charity to anyone. This is a violation of the Constitution.

That is probably one hundred percent correct, but you do have to remember how the dense oc RATS get dead people to vote and now they will figure out how to get illegals to vote,FOR SANTA CLAUS.

The solution to this problem is simple. Simply “inventory” how many of the illegal children there are and from from what countries they came from, tally up the totals, and then send an invoice to each of those countries to cover “OUR” cost of educating “THEIR” children. If they don’t pay, simply subtract the money from any foreign aide we are sending them. OH, also add an “administrative fee” to the invoice to cover the cost of OUR staff administering such a “service.”

This forum provided by AMAC is a great springboard to share comments among like minded people. Unfortunately it does not move the dial for change. A polite ” in your face ” with the democrats representing your state at the local and federal level will. Republicans need a united show of force during the 2020 election cycle. About 6 months ago I heard there was a underground revolution brewing. Dismissed it initially but have heard about it 6 or 7 times since. What caught my attention today, Diamond and Silk said the exact same thing on Fox and Friends. I suspect it will be similar to the tea party movement but far more intense and very focused. Action gets results. Participate if your not tired of winning.
Also, I research the possibilities of a 3 rd term for President Trump. Although the constitution prohibits a third term and VP. He can win a third term as a write in candidate. Now that would send a clear message to the dems.

Wow, how is this possible! Who gives these leftist groups and communist groups the right to demand payment per person of over $2,000 for people we didn’t vote on to have here! What happened to “we the people “. This country is loosing its foothold on sanity and what’s right for our country. If we know these kids are illegal, why can’t the schools turn them over to Ice. The good people of this country are being tromped on but those Dems who have their ideas confounded by “Justice for all “ except the true citizens of this country. Vote them out!!!!!!!
