We developed hypersonic technology in the early 1960’s, but thanks to the wrong-headed thinking of our leaders and a desire to molify the peace niks of the day, we abondoned the research. Then to compound that error, later Democrats decided it would be a wonderful idea to share this technology with the Russians and also the Chinese as a demonstration of our peaceful intentions. Any concern voiced from our military was poo-pooed as “out of touch thinking”. The view of the Democrats of the time was “What could go wrong handing communist nations access to the kind of technology we were no longer developing anymore nor planning a defense against?” Typical rose colored glasses mentality. Now look at what that kind of lousy decision making has yielding. No doubt there will be useless Congressional hearings on the subject, but meaningless bloviations from Congress isn’t going to fix the issue. We must stop pretending both Russia and China do not view us as an adversary to be neutralized or ultimately defeated either economically or militarily.
