U.S. House of Representatives
2373 Rayburn House Office Building

Dear Representative Smith,
On behalf of the 1.1 million members of AMAC, the Association of Mature American Citizens, I am writing to offer our strong support for H.R. 7, the “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act.” This important piece of legislation addresses the need for a government-wide policy that rightly prohibits taxpayer money from subsidizing abortions that take place in clinics around the country.
As an organization that is wholly dedicated to the preservation of life and protection of the innocent, AMAC firmly believes that H.R. 7 is a necessary and responsible step in upholding the sanctity of human life for all. H.R. 7 ensures that no abortions – except in special circumstances – are funded by taxpayer dollars. In addition, this bill eliminates the need for Congress to pass annual abortion funding prohibitions, and it ensures that no other Federal programs or agencies are allowed to operate in violation of this crucial safeguard.
At a core level, AMAC remains very concerned that new health regulations recently passed at the Federal level – such as those contained in ObamaCare – propound the use of taxpayer dollars for uses that may conflict with the ethical and religious beliefs of many American citizens. As the National discussion on reforming health care continues, AMAC believes that increased accountability, enhanced transparency, and regular reporting are absolutely critical – and that specific restrictions on the use of Federal assistance for controversial medical procedures are imperative. H.R. 7 is an essential step in the right direction.
Already this year, AMAC has championed other legislative initiatives that restrict how Federal assistance is administered for abortions. Today is no exception. AMAC is more than proud to stand with the 139 co-sponsors of this bill in defense of both the taxpayer and unborn. Thanks to your concern and attention for this significant issue, AMAC is pleased to support H.R. 7, the “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act.”
